Breast reduction surgery involves a combination of skin and breast tissue removal and reshaping. The surgery aims to reduce the size and weight of large breasts by lifting the breasts off the lower chest and upper abdomen. The objective is to leave the breasts smaller and lighter, sitting higher on the chest and closer to the body.
These before and after images are of a 54-year-old woman (taken 4 months apart) who had a bilateral breast reduction. Prior to surgery she reported symptoms such as neck, upper back and shoulder pain as well as infra-mammary skin irritation likely caused or contributed to by disproportionately large breasts rubbing on the upper chest area. Dr Avery removed 1789g of skin, fat and tissue from the right breast and 1609g from the left breast. Breast cup size can vary significantly between bra brands and for this reason, it should only be one factor to consider when thinking about breast reduction goals and outcomes. This Avery patient went from a J cup size down to a C cup in her chosen brand.
