Abdominoplasty Before and After - Journey 20

06.12.23

An abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a surgical procedure that aims to reduce excess loose skin, primarily from the lower part of the abdomen or stomach, as well as tightening the remaining skin.

These clinical photographs are of a 40-year-old woman before and 4 months after ‘fleur de lis’ (FDL) abdominoplasty surgery to address excess skin of the lower and upper abdomen.

During surgery, Dr Avery removed 5125g of skin and tissue. A FDL abdominoplasty involves skin removal and tightening in a vertical and horizontal direction, thereby targeting both the upper and lower abdomen.

A traditional or typical abdominoplasty has a scar that lies horizontally across the lower aspect of the abdomen and generally the tightening of skin is mostly in the vertical (up and down) direction. By having a scar that lies vertically on the abdomen, it also allows tightening in the horizontal (side to side) direction.
