Brachioplasty Before and After - Journey 1

21.06.23

An arm lift or brachioplasty describes a surgical procedure which removes unwanted loose skin and fat from the upper arm, commonly from the level of the inner aspect of the elbow to the axillae (armpit). This surgery may be considered if you have lost significant weight and have loose hanging skin on the upper inner arm.

These are the pre and post-operative (4 months after surgery) photos of a 29-year-old who had lost an amazing 60kg following weight loss surgery (in this case a ‘lap gastric sleeve’).

Dr Avery performed a brachioplasty, also known as an arm reduction or arm lift, to address her concerns with excess loose skin of the upper inner arm. Brachioplasty surgery is performed using a combination of liposuction and skin removal, and results in a scar approximately from the armpit to the elbow along the inner aspect of the arm, which is typical for this type of surgery. Scars will fade over time, with 12 months or more the typical time required for scars to fade to their best.

Losing a large amount of weight can affect individuals differently, surgery following significant weight loss is individualised and tailored accordingly each individual’s concerns, with multiple areas often being addressed either concurrently of during different surgical dates.

This is determined by considerations as the type and extent of surgery to areas of concern and safety. Safety and quality of result are paramount in this decision and it is important to consider the impact of the surgical time needed to address multiple areas and the added complexity in recovery following surgery to multiple sites.
