An abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a surgical procedure that aims to reduce excess loose skin, primarily from the lower part of the abdomen or stomach, as well as tightening the remaining skin. A breast lift (or mastopexy) is when excess skin is removed and breast tissue is reshaped to raise the breasts.

After undertaking bariatric surgery and a successful weight loss of over 60kg, this 49-year-old consulted with Dr Avery about the options for excess skin removal or body contouring surgery.

Body contouring surgery also referred to as surgery following significant weight loss, involves a number of potential surgeries to different parts of the body with the aim of removing excess skin and tissue as a result of significant weight loss.

Combined abdominoplasty surgery and breast lift surgery was completed. Over 1.3kg of tissue was removed from this patient’s abdomen and this was in addition to the nearly 800mls of fat removed via liposuction. Due to the skin laxity, Dr Avery extended the excision of this abdominoplasty around the flank/hip area to provide a more sculpted result. This is often referred to as an extended abdominoplasty.

Breast lift surgery (mastopexy) aims to restore or create fuller and firmer breasts by removing excess skin and reshaping the remaining breast tissue to allow the breasts to sit above the inframammary fold. Dr Avery was able to reposition the breasts higher on the chest wall and also lift the nipples 8cms to a more favourable position in relation to the lifted breast.

Combining these surgeries allows one recovery, and return to work and family duties sooner than if they were completed at two different times. Recovery from this combined surgery is estimated at 6 weeks, with the Avery team supporting you every step of the way.
