An abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a surgical procedure that aims to reduce excess loose skin, primarily from the lower part of the abdomen or stomach, as well as tightening the remaining skin.
Shown here are pre and 4 months post-operative photos of a 42-year-old woman who met with Dr Avery to discuss her surgical options following weight loss of over 45kg. She reported suffering from severe skin irritation due to the excess skin left because of weight loss. An abdominoplasty was completed. Dr Avery removed 600g of skin and tissue from the lower abdomen. The overall result achieved for this patient is removal of excess mobile stretched skin, with a reduction of symptoms.
Scars are an inevitable part of surgical incisions, and the outcome of scar appearance is affected by multiple factors including genetic factors, skin quality and adherence to post-operative instructions, such as limiting lifting or other strenuous activity in the early recovery period, and taping. Laser optimisation resources can also be used.
