An abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a surgical procedure that aims to reduce excess loose skin, primarily from the lower part of the abdomen or stomach, as well as tightening the remaining skin.
These photographs show a 29-year-old woman before surgery and 3 months post-operatively. This patient sought an abdominoplasty after losing 55kg and experiencing mobile excess skin and back pain. Dr Avery performed a type of abdominoplasty called an FDL or ‘fleur di lis’, given this name because of the pattern of skin removal and resulting scar, which is like an anchor or inverted T, with a vertical scar as well as the traditional horizontal lower abdominoplasty scar. Dr Avery removed 3344g of skin and tissue from the abdomen and 500ml of fat via liposuction. This surgery required a four-night stay in hospital and regular post-operative appointments with Avery during recovery.
